Thandiwe works with ZCP as a core part of the Ecology Staff. She conducts field research on large carnivores and their habitat and prey, as well as training new staff members in all aspects of field research and conservation. She’s currently conducting a directed study on lion cub survival as well as co-authoring a study on understanding and reducing human-carnivore conflict in rural Zambia to submit for publication. Thandiwe is also hoping to help institute a training program for Conservation Club girls in the near future to give other promising students the opportunity to become wildlife researchers and conservationists in South Luangwa.

In high-school, Thandiwe was a committed member of the Wildlife Conservation Club during her time in secondary school. She graduated from high school with 1st class distinctions in all subjects and was awarded a scholarship by the Pestalozzi International Village Trust to study for an International Baccalaureate Diploma in Southern England. She is now a recipient of the International Student Humanitarian Award from the University of British Columbia in Canada where she is a 4th year Applied Biology student.

In July, Thandiwe was invited to a VIP dinner and safari with Zambia’s President, Rupiah Banda, in South Luangwa National Park.

She will be traveling from university in British Columbia to attend WCN.  She is very excited about this opportunity to share the important work ZCP is doing in Zambia. She is also looking forward to meeting keynote speaker Jane Goodall and hearing about inspirational projects being headed by conservationists in countries from across the world.
